New briefing notes on the Environmental Permitting Regime now available
Two new briefing notes on the 'Environmental Permitting Regime and the Protection of Land and Groundwater Quality' and the 'Large Increases Proposed for the OPRA Charging Scheme' have been produced and are now available.
Environmental Permitting Regulations and the Protection of Land and Groundwater Quality
The EP Regulations require a Site Condition Report (SCR) to be produced for all A1 and A2 processes, which will be regulated by the Environment Agency and Local Authority respectively. This may require the collection of baseline data which can be costly, but effective planning around this can mean the information can be utilised in other investigations or land asset management.

Large Increases Proposed for OPRA Charging Scheme
Under the Environmental Permitting Regulations the Environment Agency is proposing large increases, for non-compliant operators, in the OPRA (Operational Risk Assessment) charging scheme. This could mean a 300% increase in charges from some operators.
The briefing notes provides further details on these changes and advice on how operators can improve their compliance with the environmental and PPC permits, thereby avoiding increased charges.
