Renewables Obligation Briefing Note now available
If you have ever considered investing in renewable energy, or are already a generator, you will be aware of the Renewables Obligation (RO). The RO has just been changed so several technologies - including solar, biomass and waste, can earn more money and become more cost effective.
The RO has run since 2002, and has helped increase the proportion of renewable electricity in the UK supply from 2% in 2002 to 5% in 2007. However, this does not look like it will be enough to meet the RO's original target of 10% renewable electricity by 2010, and the Renewable Energy Strategy's target of over 30% by 2020. In response to this, the Government implemented major changes to the RO in April 2009.
We have produced a
briefing note to help you understand the changes within the new 'banded' RO.
Contact us if you need help in assessing how the new bands have affected the business case of your renewable energy projects.
