Waste Water Case Study: Ravenscraig
| RAVENSCRAIG REMEDIATION & RESTORATION SCHEME, RAVENSCRAIG, SCOTLAND |
Operator: British Steel (now Corus)
Operational: 1997 to date
Enviros was the lead consultant in the remediation of the former steelworks site at
Ravenscraig. As part of British Steel's project for the remediation we had a major role in
developing management options for both wastewater from a secure containment facility
(SCF) and contaminated groundwaters.

This included negotiations with the statutory authorities.
We designed and commissioned the treatment process which comprises physical, chemical and biological treatment.
Contaminants removed in the treatment process comprise free and emulsified oil, cyanide and ammoniacal nitrogen. Further polishing of water occurs in a horizontal flow reed bed before the treated water is discharged to the environmentally sensitive South Calder Water.
